A Swindon charity celebrating its 30th anniversary is looking forward to supporting an additional 150 families this year after receiving a £1,500 donation.
The Swindon & North Wiltshire Deaf Children’s Society (SNWDCS) supports deaf and hearing-impaired children and their families. Established in 1993 by parents of deaf children, the society continues to be run by parent volunteers and is affiliated with the National Deaf Children’s Society.
“With fundraising becoming more challenging, donations play a vital role in sustaining our activities. While we’re affiliated with the National Deaf Children’s Society, we rely on local donations and support” said Josie Singleton, chair at SNWDCS. “This funding will make a huge difference and enable us to continue our vital work to advance education and promote deaf awareness in our communities.”
Louise Ware, sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West which was behind the donation and the company currently building at Orchards Rise in Wichelstowe, added: “We’re proud to support SNWDCS – it delivers an essential resource for families in the Swindon and North Wiltshire area, providing vital support and creating a community where deaf children can thrive and reach their full potential.”
Looking ahead, SNWDCS has an exciting calendar of events planned for the 30th anniversary year including soft play parties for preschool and primary school children and social events for young people and parents plus a summer celebration at Lydiard Park in Swindon on Saturday 31 August.
