The National Lottery Community Fund has awarded a £1000 grant to support the new Blankets of Hope initiative.
This community-driven project will see the team knitting, crocheting, and sewing cosy, handcrafted blankets to bring warmth and comfort to vulnerable members of the Swindon community.
Swindon Big Knit is a community-led crafting group with a passion for making a meaningful difference; one stitch at a time.
Known for bringing people together through knitting, crocheting, and sewing, they channel their creativity into projects that spread warmth, hope, and connection throughout Swindon.
Whether it’s blankets for those in need, collaborative displays that celebrate local heritage, or seasonal campaigns that uplift the community, Swindon Big Knit thrives on kindness, inclusivity, and the simple joy of crafting with purpose.
With winter on the horizon, the timing of the grant couldn’t be better. The funding will all be used to purchase yarn and essential materials; ensuring that every stitch counts toward making a difference.

Crafting in their free time, working on squares for the blankets and collaborative crafting sessions, the Swindon Big Knit team will be hard at work with this project.
Their goal is to wrap the elderly and vulnerable in warmth, kindness, and care - all made possible thanks to the support of the Community Fund.
