Sepsis Research FEAT are asking members of the public to help spread the word for Sepsis Awareness Month - September.
People in Swindon are encouraged to share their own personal experiences of the life-threatening condition - or simply to help the charity raise awareness.
Sepsis is caused by the body’s response to an infection. It is estimated to kills five people on average every hour in the UK.
Sepsis Research FEAT is the only UK sepsis charity dedicated to funding research to help find improved treatments for sepsis while also working to raise awareness. The charity's aim is for everyone to be able to spot these five key symptoms and know when to seek urgent medical attention:
- High/Low temperature
- Uncontrolled shivering
- Confusion
- Passing little urine
- Blotchy or cold arms and legs
Members of the public could support vital research into sepsis by donating or taking part in a fundraising activity.
Personal experiences of sepsis can be shared on social media using the hashtag #sepsisawarenessmonth21
Sepsis Research FEAT's primary research project supports the GenOMICC study at the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute. This study is investigating the role genes play in determining patients’ outcomes from sepsis. The organisation do not receive Government funding and rely on legacies and donations to support their work.
The charity was founded by Craig Stobo in memory of his wife, Dr Fiona Agnew, and their unborn daughter Isla, who died from sepsis in 2012.
