Royal Wootton Bassett Academy is said to be one of a number of forward-thinking schools that are adopting this new technology for the classroom.

VR technology has the potential to transform the way that educational content is delivered. As ICT and Physics teacher Paul Reynolds explains, students learn better through experience, and the use of these headsets is a unique way to inspire and engage them.

He said: “The headsets have enabled us to examine the structure of an atom in physics, explore a space station, do dangerous experiments in a virtual laboratory and, of course, enjoy a few games. The possibilities are endless and the students can be transported to a different place and time.”

The secondary school, which is part of the Royal Wootton Basset Academy Trust, has purchased three VR headsets for students, enabling them to engage with interactive content of images or videos and explore 360 degrees of a scene, creating an immersive experience to spark imaginations and encourage creative thinking.

Paul added: “This is groundbreaking. We have a generation of children born and raised in a digital era and we must embrace new ways of learning. Students can learn about the world around them in a safe and controlled environment using these headsets.”
