Swindon Area Green Party will be hosting a debate about electoral reform, entitled ‘Make Votes Matter’ at The Pilgrim Centre, Regent Street, Swindon.

The free event, at 7.30pm on Tuesday 24 January, is open to all visitors.

Ken Kimber, from Swindon Green Party said: “The current first-past-the-post voting system distorts our election results, meaning Parliament doesn’t reflect how people voted. With FPTP, votes are not all equal. We want the event to start a discussion about how the UK can move towards a fair voting system.

“Proportional Representation would ensure every party’s representation in Parliament matched the share of votes they got. Parliament would more accurately represent the wide range of views in British society.”

The event will feature a talk from Klina Jordan from Make Votes Matter, a cross-party campaign led by democratically organised activists to introduce Proportional Representation to the House of Commons in a united movement for electoral reform.
