Local people and visitors to Swindon gathered at Regent Circus on Friday, to celebrate the official launch of 13 new buses for the town.

Thamesdown, Swindon’s bus company, has made a significant investment in the British-built ADL Enviro 200 vehicles, and will run them across various routes.

We are incredibly proud of our new buses. And this is good news for both commuters and leisure passengers wishing to travel across Swindon,” said Andrew Wickham, managing director of Thamesdown.

“Customers here were very clear about the enhancements they wanted to see here, and we have listened to them. On-board technology includes free WiFi and USB charging points for smartphones and hand-held devices. And the buses are equipped with the very latest low emissions Euro 6 engines - which are kinder to the environment.

“We’ve also introduced our much talked about horseshoe seating layout to the rear of the buses, creating a more sociable setting for those travelling with us.

“With more than a £2 million investment in these new buses, we’re looking forward to seeing them out and about, transporting customers who use our services whilst living in or visiting Swindon.”

Andrew Wickham was joined at the launch by Justin Tomlinson MP for North Swindon, representatives from Swindon Town Council, and a number of valued stakeholders from the local area.

Andrew commented: "The event provided an opportunity for local people to take a closer look at some of the new buses and to meet the Thamesdown management team - for an insight into the operator’s plans to enhance local bus services over the coming months and years."
