Swindon’s Hindu community celebrated Holi with a blaze of colours on Saturday.

The traditional festival of colours, which signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring and the end of winter - was marked by participants covering each other in brightly coloured powder.

Community members were joined by invited guests, including Wiltshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Angus Macperson, at the Swindon Hindu Temple and Cultural Festival in Cheney Manor.

Chairman of the Swindon Hindu Temple Trust, Pradeep Bhardwaj, said: “This cheerful event is being organised to promote & foster equality and tolerance and to bring people & communities together.”

Those taking part were treated to a buffet of wonderful food, a professional Bollywood DJ, Indian drums (Dhol).

This is the second year that Swindon has hosted Holi - which is now the biggest Holi event in the South West region.
