Study Higher in partnership with Create Studios are delivering a week long summer school dedicated to the creative arts.

'Game Changers’ aims to highlight all there is to offer for students wishing to pursue a career in the creative arts in Swindon. Whether you dream of becoming a film maker, a photographer or setting up your own business, the project aims to equip all those involved not only with skills but with vital knowledge.

Sixteen Year 12 and 13 students from New College, Swindon College and Cirencester College will take part in this exciting project. The week will see all involved visit a number of different local business and creative spaces, including Old Town’s DESK and Shoebox Theatre. With the help of the team from Create Studio’s the students will continually film their week long adventure, looking to imaginatively capture the dynamic opportunities Swindon has to offer.

Study Higher, is a collaborative partnership of universities and further education colleges, led by Oxford Brookes University and funded by the Officefor Students (OfS) as part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme. Study Higher works collaboratively on a wide-range of outreach activities with targeted schools and colleges across Swindon, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire to highlight opportunities within higher education for young people. A number of student representatives from Oxford Brookes University will be joining us throughout the week to talk about education opportunities outside of Swindon. Whether the students decide to fly the nest to study elsewhere, or take their studies to the next level in Swindon, the project aims to uncover the rapidly evolving and extremely diverse world of ‘Creative Swindon’.

Shahina Johnson, Create Studios Artistic Director said: “The team at Create Studios are committed to using digital media to grow skills and confidence in young people. Working in partnership with the Study Higher team on the Game Change project is a great example of how access to great media equipment and mentoring by Swindon creatives who have succeeded in a the film industry can inspire a new generation, and alert them to rich cultural and entrepreneurial activity in the town.”

Emma Rowe, Higher Education Liaison Officer at Study Higher added: “I set this project up in order to raise awareness of what Swindon has to offer in regards to the creative industries. Not only that but to inform students about the different options they have available to them when it comes to furthering their studies in this area. I am passionate about encouraging young people to pursue their dreams, whatever they may be, in a way that works for them as individuals.”
