Commuters were treated to a rare glimpse of a historic loco, the Royal Scot, as it steamed through Swindon Railway Station. The 1927 green steam train, hauling the 12-carriage Cathedral Express turned heads as she briefly pulled into the station.

The Royal Scot was the flagship locomotive of the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company and operated the fastest services on the West Coast from London to Manchester and Glasgow.

A plaque on the side explained that in 1933, the engine was taken on a tour of the United States and Canada - appearing at the Century of Progress Exhibition in Chicago.

The Royal Scot was retired in 1962 but has since been brought back to its former glory in 2016.
