Details of museum visitor numbers for 2024 have been released by Swindon Borough Council.

The total came to more than 50,000, with STEAM proving one of the town's most popular destinations.

More than 45,000 people crossed the threshold of the acclaimed museum of the Great Western Railway - a figure which does not include those to visited STEAM to attend one of the many special events held there.

In addition, Museum & Art Swindon, which was opened on the first floor of the Civic Offices last July and replaced the old Museum and Art Gallery at Apsley house in Old Town, welcomed almost 6,000 people.

A council spokesperson said of Museum & Art Swindon: "It has hosted a variety of art exhibitions (including the ongoing Hardy’s Wessex and Un/Common People showcases) as well as proudly displaying the history of Swindon."

The latest information about STEAM and Museum & Art Swindon, including details of special exhibitions can be found at www.steam-museum.org.uk and www.museumartswindon.com respectively.
