Save Oasis Swindon have been granted permission by current owners, Seven Capital to organise a fireworks display above the Oasis Leisure Centre to mark its 50th anniversary.
The event will take place on the evening of 1 January 2026, exactly 50 years after the iconic leisure centre opened. The display will consist of high mortars launched over the dome from the BMX Track behind the Oasis.
The Save Oasis Swindon campaign group have launched a crowdfunder to help raise funds to allow the display to take place.
A spokesperson for the group said: “The fireworks have been estimated by local professional fireworks company Distant Thunder, and they have all the relevant insurances in place. They have told us that £5,000 would provide 3.5 minutes of 400ft mortars shooting above the dome. However, the more donations received after the target, the bigger and longer the display will be.
“As well as public donations, we also accept sponsorships from local companies and organisations. Please donate as normal if you are a company, using your company name and we will get your brand listed as a sponsor.
“The higher the donations, the greater the fireworks will be. This has never been done before, so let's all chip in and make a Swindon landmark look epic. Liam Gallagher reckons it will be Biblical!”
If the weather is poor on the day an alternative date will be arranged. If you would like to sponsor the event, please email: [email protected].
