A Wiltshire Police staff member whose career has been defined by compassion, commitment and a desire to help others has been recognised with a Long Service Award.
Alaina Coles joined Wiltshire Police in July 2005 as a part-time Weekend Detention Officer.
She now serves as a Custody Coordinator, bringing professionalism, bring what the force describes as resilience and an unwavering commitment to supporting both colleagues and the public.
She received her award in recognition of her dedication at the Wiltshire Police Force Awards.
Throughout her career, Alaina has worked across a range of policing roles.
She was part of a pioneering Home Office Local Investigation Officer pilot, helping to modernise investigative practices, and later spent 10 years in the Crime Management Unit where she managed everything from low-level thefts to complex investigations, including an £800,000 art theft.
She also became the force's single point of contact for counterfeit currency investigations, working alongside the National Crime Agency and supporting teams across Wiltshire.
Despite her many achievements, it is a simple act of kindness that remains one of her most memorable moments.
While volunteering at an Emergency Services Show, Alaina was asked by a mother to take the fingerprints of her baby daughter, who had been given a short life expectancy.
Reflecting on the experience, Alaina said: "It reminded me that what might seem like a small part of your job can mean everything to someone else. It's a moment I'll never forget."
Alaina continues to build strong relationships with detainees and colleagues alike, supporting people through often challenging circumstances.
For the last three years, she has played a central role in establishing Wiltshire Police's Custody Coordinator team, helping officers with investigations while ensuring those in custody are prepared and supported throughout the criminal justice process.
Alongside her operational role, she has been a dedicated UNISON representative, championing health, safety and workplace wellbeing, including during significant events such as the Novichok incidents and the Covid-19 pandemic.
Through every role she has undertaken, Alaina has demonstrated kindness, resilience and an enduring commitment to public service.
A force spokesperson said: "Congratulations, Alaina, on your Long Service Award, and thank you for your exceptional service to Wiltshire Police and the communities of Wiltshire."
