Swindon’s construction industry was celebrated at an annual awards event organised by Swindon Borough Council’s Building Control team.
The Swindon Building Control Local Building Excellence Awards took place at the Civic Offices in Euclid Street and celebrated the best in technical innovation, sustainability, safety and design.
This year, awards were presented to 12 winners, ranging from smaller residential projects up to larger housing developments.
Local builders Paul Cook Construction Ltd and Neil Armstrong Architectural Services won the award for Best Small-Sized Residential Extension, while A C Watson and Son Building Contractors and MJF CAD Solutions Ltd scooped the award for Best Medium-Sized Extension.
Larchbrook Ltd picked up the award for Best Conversion to a dwelling, and R and R Design and Build Contractors Ltd and Potton Architectural Design received the Best New Dwelling award.
Winners also included Clements and NMW Architects (Best New Small Housing Development), Snape Contracting Services Ltd and Bailey Partnership for their work on the Lydiard Hotel and Conference Centre (Best Non-Residential Extension or Alteration), and Great Western Building Services (Best Large Extension).
Hills Homes received the award for Best New Large Housing Development for its development at The Paddocks in Blunsdon, while Jon Holloway and his team at STFC Community Foundation were recognised for the work on The Nigel Eady Training Centre, at Foundation Park next to the County Ground, as it was named Best Public or Community Building.
Beard Construction and BBA Architects, meanwhile, won Best Non-Residential Conversion for the conversion of Brunel’s former Carriage Works, off London Street.
Individual awards went to Paul Jones of Willmott Dixon (Best Residential Site Manager) and Steve Ratcliffe of Talus Construction (Best Non-Residential Site Manager).
The winners will each automatically go through to the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Regional Building Excellence awards for the West of England region this spring.
