Swindon’s Bus Company is introducing a special bus fare for people wishing to spend evenings socialising in the town.
It is the firm's way of welcoming in the summer season - and anticipating the lifting of covid restrictions.
The operator is keen to boost the local economy whilst helping to keep congestion low, and will offer everyone the chance to travel after 7pm for £1 on any day from Monday, 28 June until Sunday, 5 September.
Swindon’s Bus Company managing director Andrew Wickham said: “One of the rare positive impacts of Covid is that it contributed to reduced congestion across the town - but we know how important it is now to support the local economy.
“From 28 June until 5 September, people can travel with us - perhaps for a drink with friends in town, a meal out, a family trip to the cinema or a friendly BBQ with family - for £1.
“Buses have the potential to take many cars off the road - and we’re hoping this initiative will encourage more people to use sustainable transport this summer.
“This special £1 fare is available directly from the driver for adults or children. We encourage people to pay by contactless where they can, but we do still accept cash.
“If more people choose to leave their cars at home and travel with us instead, we could make a real impact in helping to improve the air quality in and around Swindon whilst providing a boost for the local hospitality industry.
