Essential resurfacing work will take place across 18 deteriorating roads as Swindon Borough Council continues to take action to target roads in poor condition.

Work will be carried out between Monday 13 July and the end of August to coincide with the quieter weeks of the summer holidays.

The programme forms part of the council’s annual major and minor roads resurfacing programme, which will see the local authority invest more than £1m into its road network this summer.

Approved through the council’s Local Transport Plan, key residential streets and important routes, including Frobisher Drive, Gainsborough Way, Colebrook Road, Eastcott Road and Marlowe Avenue, will receive improvements.

Several of the roads are located near schools or in busy neighbourhoods, meaning that when completed, residents will see a noticeable difference and improvement to journeys.

To complete the work as quickly and safely as possible, roads will be closed between 8am and 6pm during their scheduled repair periods, except works at Villett Street which will be completed overnight (between 8pm and 6am).

Access will be maintained for residents, and signed diversions will be in place for other road users.

Residents and businesses affected by the works have been notified by letter.

This programme of work comes off the back of a three-week scheme to resurface Blagrove Roundabout, improving a key gateway into Swindon. This proactive approach complements the Council’s wider highways maintenance work, including reactive pothole repairs, refreshed road markings and traffic signal upkeep.

Cllr Nick Gardiner, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “Residents have been clear that improving our roads is a top priority, and this programme shows we are getting on with the job.

"By targeting roads that need attention now, we can prevent more costly repairs in the future.

“We’re taking a planned, proactive approach, focused on fixing roads properly rather than relying on temporary measures. This isn’t the only work we’ll be doing, as we have a further programme of work for busier routes still to come later in the year, of which more details will be announced in due course.

“I’d personally like to thank our Highways team for their hard work in pulling the programme together, and to residents and businesses for their understanding when it comes to any disruption they may experience during this period.”

Each site is expected to be completed within one to four days. Full details, including timings, traffic management arrangements and area of road set to be resurfaced, can be found on the one.network website along with works from other organisations including utility companies.
