CPRE Wiltshire’s 2024 Best Kept Village Competition is now inviting entries.

All parish clerks in Wiltshire have received an invitation, and entries are encouraged from villages of all sizes throughout the country.

Anyone from a village can enter, and need not be a member of a parish council.

CPRE Wiltshire Branch Chair Anne Henshaw said: “As usual, we’re excited to be launching the competition again this year, and are hoping for many entries.

"Wiltshire has many well-presented villages within the county and I know how much previous winners value the recognition this competition brings.”

All entrants need to submit is one form, a map and a short village report and to let their parish council know they are entering. Entries need to be in toCPRE Wiltshire no later than 19 April.

This year, the competition doesn’t have a main sponsor but idverde, a UK and European grounds maintenance and landscape creation company with an office in Wiltshire, is sponsoring both the Laurence Kitching (Winner of Winners) Award and the Best Newcomer Award.

Paul Ashman, Community Engagement Manager at idverde working in partnership with Wiltshire Council, said: “When Mike Manson, Project Officer for CPRE Wiltshire approached idverde to sponsor this year’s CPRE Wiltshire Best Kept Village Competition it didn’t take long to take up the offer.

"idverde offered sponsorship for both the Laurence Kitching - Winner of Winners - Award and the Best Newcomer Award, as we felt that this was the perfect event for idverde to support, as it fit into what idverde as a company are about in Wiltshire supporting the community.

"What better way to start off the year, sponsoring such a great community event involving the Wiltshire villages, making it a better place to live.’’

The judges consider presentation throughout each village – tidiness, absence of litter and evidence of community spirit and involvement – but do not award marks for the beauty of buildings, otherwise the same villages might win every time.

The first round of judging in the 2024 competition will take place from 13 May to 9 June.
