Swindon South MP Heidi Alexander has pledged to continue improving people's day-to-day lives after being reappointed Transport Secretary by new Prime Minister Andy Burnham.

The Swindon-born MP, who grew up in the town, has also spoken of her constituency role as the privilege of her life.
She said: "I'm delighted to have been reappointed as Secretary of State for Transport and I am grateful to the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, for the confidence he has placed in me.
"I'm looking forward to continuing the work of delivering a transport system that improves people's day-to-day lives, supports economic growth and gives passengers the reliable services they deserve.
"The drive to renationalise our railways continues with GWR coming into public ownership in December - improving our buses and fixing our broken roads are also top priorities for me.
"It remains the privilege of my life to serve as the Member of Parliament for Swindon South, and I will continue to be a strong voice for our town both locally and in Government, to ensure we secure the investment and opportunities our town deserves."
