Shoppers are being urged by Swindon Borough Council to be 'scam savvy' as the January sales come into full swing.
A spokesperson said: "As the sales rush picks up, so does scam activity.
"Don't be tempted by cheap offers and pressure to buy quickly."
The council has issued some tips to help prevent people from falling victim:
- Pause before you click and check the source
- Read the reviews from other customers
- Never share personal details or make urgent payments without verifying
The spokesperson added: ":If something feels off, don’t reply or click any links.
"Stay informed and protect yourself by getting the latest advice on spotting, avoiding and reporting scams by searching 'Action Fraud'."
