The ever-popular Old Town Open Gardens event is back again this year on Sunday 7 July from noon until 5.30pm.

Backed by South Swindon Parish Council's South Swindon in Bloom project, this year's features 11 gardens including three new ones.

Every penny of the proceeds go to good causes Twigs Community Gardens, Shine Post Natal Support and Old Town Community Gardeners. Organiser Cllr Linda Kasmaty said: "There are a wide range of gardens showing what plants grow well locally, giving visitors lots of inspiration.

"The gardens range from a small jungle-like exotic garden behind a terraced house to larger gardens with wildflower meadows, water features and ‘No-dig’ organic vegetable gardens.

"Visitors also enjoy learning about the history of the gardens, ranging from Jurassic period fossils, Roman villas and secret room relics from the Second World War.

"Garden owners will be on hand to talk about their gardens, what grows well locally and answer questions.

"Visitors enjoy strolling round Old Town, stopping at these gardens for homemade cakes and cream teas, and sitting and relaxing in the gardens, maybe buying plants from the plant sales at many of the gardens."

Tickets are priced £5 per person, children are admitted free and the ticket price includes a map of all the gardens. The maps also show which gardens are dog friendly, which have free children’s activities and which have afternoon teas and plant sales and other attractions.

Tickets can be bought from Old Town Hardware, The Hop, Baristocats, Mabel’s and Eventbrite.
