The new till at the shop on Curtis Street will enable the charity to increase the value of donations by 25% using Gift Aid.
A grant from Nationwide Building Society has enabled Swindon & District Samaritans to introduce a new shop till which, together with the Gift Aid scheme, will enable supporters to increase the value of their donations by 25% by simply signing a Gift Aid form.
The charity estimates the value of this to be in the region of £2,000 per year for selling the same amount of stock – which means they can train 10 new volunteers or answer 400 calls to those who need a safe place to talk.
The majority of the funds Swindon & District Samaritans need to be able to provide a safe place and space to talk, comes from their shop at 5/6 Curtis Street in Swindon.
A spokesman for the charity said: "Signing up takes very little time and costs you nothing but means we are able to make a real difference by always being around to give anyone who is struggling, the space and time to talk.
"Please talk to or email ([email protected]) Jodie, our shop manager, or any of our shop volunteers to ask for a Gift Aid form to complete. This form doesn’t ask for any financial details (like income, National Insurance number etc) – only your name and contact details as well as needing your signature. Rest assured, we will never share your details with third parties."
