Swindon Borough Council announces it has been awarded over £1.1 million to create new woodlands in Swindon.

Swindon Borough Council have been awarded over £1.1m from the Government through the England Community Forest's Trees for Climate programme.

This funding is said to be going towards planting new trees and creating new woodlands in Swindon.

A spokesperson for the council said: "Trees play a vital role in our eco system and this funding will be spent on purchasing and planting new trees, carrying out studies, managing and protecting the trees over the coming years and creating new woodland paths."

The council says this new phase of tree planting will likely begin during the planting season in November.

People and organisations across Swindon are taking action on climate change.

Individuals can use the tips, tools, and advice available on the council's website at https://www.swindon.gov.uk/info/20166/climate_change to play their part too.
