The firm is helping to distribute a special book to children living in the area.

Run by the National Literacy Trust, Swindon Stories has taken delivery of some ‘Choose Kind’ journals, which have been donated so that local youngsters can write their thoughts and make a commitment to do one wonderful thing every day.

“This beautiful journal is based on the global bestseller, ‘Wonder',” said Swindon’s Bus Company general manager Alex Chutter.

“Wonder has inspired countless readers to change the way they think about others - and choose to be kind. And the journal is filled with suggestions and activities for spreading kindness.

“Swindon Stories received a number of journals as a donation, and asked us if we could help get them to as many children as possible.

"We’re very conscious that the nation is currently in lockdown, and people should only make essential journeys, so we’ve come up with an idea.
“We have 90 copies of the journal at the Swindon’s Bus Company travel shop in Fleming Way. We’re inviting parents to reserve a slot and come and pick up a book whilst they are in the immediate area for their shopping.

"We will ensure social distancing for those who are interested. The mental health of our youngsters is so important at this very challenging time, and anything that we can do to help is worth doing.

“Swindon Stories is a vital local resource, helping to tackle low literacy levels that have a serious impact on people’s lives. We have been working with the charity for some time, and are delighted to be supporting this latest initiative.”

Anyone wishing to book a socially-distanced slot for picking up a free copy of the journal can do so by calling the travel shop on 01793 428428. For safety reasons, pre-booking is essential.
