A festive open day will take place at Westlea fire station on Saturday 17 December in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity.

The event will run from 10.30am - 3pm.

Santa will also appear in his grotto between noon and 2pm, after  having been ‘rescued’ from the training tower by firefighters.

The Fire and Rescue team say there will be a wide range of activities on to suit the whole family, including:

  • Santa's grotto (in conjunction with West Swindon Parish Council)
  • Demonstrations by fire crews throughout the day
  • CPR and first aid demonstration
  • Stands from Ambulance, Wiltshire Police and WILSAR
  • Vintage appliances
  • Biker down
  • DWFRS Safe & Well/ and recruitment team
  • Hot food and drinks

Watch Manager Robbie Macpherson, one of the organisers, said: “This is a great way to start the Christmas season, and an opportunity for local people to visit the fire station and find out more about what we do.

"Thanks to West Swindon Parish Council and a number of local businesses, children visiting Santa in his grotto will get a small present. There will be a small charge for this, but all proceeds will go to the Fire Fighters Charity, which is a really important cause for us.”

Prior to the open day, the Westlea crew will be making visits around the West Swindon area with Father Christmas and a vintage fire appliance to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

These visits will take place on: 7 December (Westlea),12 December (Eastleaze & Shaw), 19 December (Sparcells, Peatmoor & Ridgeway Farm) and on 13 December (Freshbrook & Toothill).
