Police dog handlers from across the UK will be putting their sidekicks through their paces, carrying out searches, tracking and tackling ‘armed offenders’ in the National Police Dog Trials this month.

Representing the hosts, Devizes-based Tri Force Specialist Operations are Elmo and his handler PC Andy Jerreat.

The event is not open to the public, but children from local schools have been invited to see some of the dogs in action at the most spectator-friendly phase. The youngsters will also be given tips on staying safe from road policing officers and Avon Fire & Rescue Service at Avon and Somerset’s Police HQ.

The trials conclude on Sunday 21 May.
