Town centre Polish delicatessen, Delikatesy Smaczek, has opened a new and much larger store.

The store has been providing tastes of home for Swindon’s Polish community from its Havelock Square store for the last six years. Last month it relocated to larger premises in The Brunel Centre’s Canal Walk corner.

The new store, more than twice the size of the original, now has an expanded range of Polish products as well as more products from Eastern Europe.

Manager Marta Dominiak said that the wider range of products is proving popular with both loyal and new customers.  Marta said: “Now that we have more space we can now sell different items, such as Polish wines and spirits, cosmetics and toiletries.  We also have health products, vitamin drinks and a range of Vegan items too.  Our loyal customers are delighted to find they can now buy even more of the products and brands that they recognise from home.  We are seeing lots of new customers too, and of all nationalities.”

Customer Jenny Kalewska, from Park South, is Polish and has lived in Swindon for more than 60 years. She said: “This new store is really lovely. It’s bright and has much more space than the original one. I always like to shop at Delikatesy Smaczek because the products are good and the store is always clean, and that’s important to me”.

Now that Delikatesy Smaczek has more space they now sell more products from other Eastern European countries, including Romanian and German goods.  Customer Antje Becker is German and was delighted to find more German products on sale.

Antje said: “I live in Portland in Dorset but the Polish supermarkets in the area are not as good as Delikatesy Smaczek so when I’m in Swindon, which is about twice a month, I make a point of shopping here. I really love this new store.  I’m excited to see more of the brands that I like so I will definitely keep coming back”.

Senior Manager Jacek Najkowski  is delighted that the new store is now open and that custom has already increased.  Jack said: “It’s been hard work getting all this up and running and moving all our stock over from the other store but it’s worth it.  The response from the customers has been fantastic and already we’ve seen an increase in the amount of people shopping with us so we are very optimistic that this store will be a success.

“We have 12 shops across the UK and have been operating for 11 years now.  We are a Prime Authority regulated business, which means that customers can be assured that all our stores comply with UK laws on standards of trading, health, hygiene, safety.”

Jane Stewart, Centre Manager, of The Brunel said: "We're delighted that the new Delikatesy Smaczek store is now open.  The shop looks great and the feedback from customers has been very positive."

Delikatesy Smaczek is situated near to the escalator to The Crossing on Canal Walk, opposite the Lush store in The Brunel Centre.  The shop is open from 8am – 8pm Monday to Friday, 8am – 7pm Saturday and 9am – 5pm on Sundays.
