Audi announced that it plans to make a lot of upgrades to its EV platforms in 2024 and 2025, and these changes will lead to the brand churning out more of “software-defined” electric vehicles. We could see what these new technologies are capable of doing with the launch of the 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron model. The German luxury car brand is aiming to be among the domineering brands in the EV industry in years to come.

But sadly, Audi’s quest for expansion in its EV offering is coming at a time when it seems the EV market in Europe is facing some backlashes – does this look good for the brand? Well, Audi is not bothered by the situation, the brand seemed focused on the long-term benefits of their current investments. Nevertheless, existing popular models like the A3 would continue to champion in the market.

Talking of the Audi A3, if you own one, you’ll agree that it is such a cool ride. According to autodoc.co.uk Audi A3 bumper is built solid and adds to the rugged-like appearance of the car.

Audi To Launch More Than 20 New Products in 2024 and 2025

“In 2024 and 2025, we will strengthen and rejuvenate our portfolio with a number of new products. All in all, we’re planning to launch more than 20 new models. The focus will be on our future-oriented electric cars. At the same time, we’re putting ourselves in a strong position for the coming years with a completely new generation of combustion engine models and plug-in hybrids,” says CEO Gernot Döllner.

Also, CEO Gernot affirms that Audi will eventually switch to producing only electric vehicles: “Our portfolio strategy is set out clearly. We will transform our product portfolio and switch completely to electric vehicles.”

To achieve this, the company is investing in developing software technologies that would seamlessly power its EV models. So to say, newer Audi models will be “software-defined” for maximum results.

Audi’s Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs)

Software-defined vehicles (SDVs) will play an important role in the future of electric vehicles and Audi wants to tap into the technology much earlier. Audi officially reports that its future EV models will be designed and developed on the basis of the software, which is in the works at the moment.

Being software-based means these cars can be updated via OTA throughout their lifecycle – just like smartphones. The CEO also mentioned that the brand is working in hand with the Group software unit CARIAD and the Volkswagen brand.

With a clear roadmap in view, Audi will significantly strengthen and expand its model portfolio. Already, the German luxury brand had launched the Audi Q6 e-tron to mark the start of a new generation of battery-electric vehicles. The Q6 e-tron was built on a platform and equipped with a distinctive powertrain. It also flaunts a super-stylish design that appears much better than the design of other existing models from the brand.

The Audi Q6 e-tron and Audi A6 e-tron3 are based on the all-new Premium Platform Electric (PPE), and the company plans to launch more new models this year that will based on this platform, while the Audi A5 family and the Audi Q53 will be launched on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). At the moment, PPC will be the standard platform for the brand's new combustion engine vehicles.

“The PPE shows how we pool expertise within the Volkswagen Group and thus make electric mobility scalable. Thanks to the PPE, we’re able to launch a wide variety of models with sophisticated technology,” says Audi CEO Döllner.

What More?

Audi is going fully electric in the coming years and is building refined software platforms to power its new models going forward. The brand wants to produce vehicles that can be updated and upgraded over the air (OTA) just like smartphones. Audi is working in hand with the Volkswagen Group to achieve a more flexible and refined software platform for its vehicles.
