South Swindon Parish Council has launched its Green Trail for members of the public to enjoy.

Winding its way through some of the most beautiful and historic scenery Swindon has to offer, the loop takes users on a route of about eight miles or 14km.

Parish council chair Cllr Chris Watts said: “The Parish council is delighted to be opening this fantastic new walking trail for Swindon.

"This trail will show people what is green and on our doorstep, and we have put together a webpage that details all of the wildlife and history that is to be seen on the route.

"Over the last year the parish has invested heavily to make this route as accessible as possible for all year round rather than just the dry months. We hope residents enjoy it.”

The trail has been designed to roughly follow the boundary of the parish and be suitable for all who might wish to explore it, whether in a single marathon session or in smaller and and less strenuous ones.

Walks can be started and finished at any point.

Intended to explore not just the natural world but important parts of South Swindon's history, the trail includes Shaftesbury Lake, Coate Water, Croft Wood, East Wichel, Rushey Platt, Cambria Bridge, the town centre, Fleming Way, the Magic Roundabout and Marlowe Avenue.
