Swindon Treasure Shirley Garman continues to motivate friends and family to raise £1m for charity after she lost her battle to breast cancer.

In 1995 Shirley Garman pledged to raise £1m towards fighting breast cancer after founding the local group Wiltshire Breakthrough. Unfortunately Shirley lost her battle with cancer in 2009. Since then her friends, family, and fellow campaigners have vowed to reach Shirley's target and continue to fundraise in her memory through Breast Cancer Now.

For the charity's next fundraiser the group will be hosting a Mamma Mia sing-a-long Saturday 16 June. Celebrating in true dancing queen style the event includes a Greek island dress code as well as a Greek buffet, followed by a raffle after the film screening.

Shirley's friend and fellow fundraiser Eunice Salmon said: "We started campaigning many, many years ago - when we started we wanted to raise £1m, and since Shirley's passing have vowed to carry on in her memory.

"We are £44,000 off our target and want to invite anyone to help us achieve this challenge. Next year will be the tenth anniversary of Shirley's death.

"It's funny because the day we announced this fundraiser was the day ABBA announced they would be releasing new records, and then of course the new movie will be out this July - so we're hoping this will help push our cause."

The sing-a-long screening of Mamma Mia will take place at Old Town's Christ Church from 7.15pm.
