Wiltshire Police rewarded its Volunteer Police Cadets at an awards ceremony in Trowbridge last night (Tuesday 17 July).

The event, which took place at Trowbridge Civic centre, was attended by 80 cadets and brought all cadet units together for the third year running.

There were a number of commendations and awards for Unit Most Improved Cadet of the Year, Unit Cadet of the Year and High Sheriff Cadet of the Year.  The Community Patron Cup was awarded to the Salisbury Cadet Unit by Lady Gooch in recognition of their contribution within the Community.

Wiltshire Police’s Youth Lead Sergeant Steve McGlynn was joined by Chief Constable Kier Pritchard and Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon Angus Macpherson. Other guests included the High Sheriff, Mrs Nicky Alberry DL and Cadets Patron Lady Gooch.

Sgt Stephen McGlynn said: “The commitment, enthusiasm and standards that the cadets have shown throughout the year have been exemplary. Their participation in the scheme is on top of other competing demands such as school work, exams, other hobbies and spending time with family and friends.

“As a result of the cadet’s devotion, the scheme has raised over £4000 for local charities during this academic year.  Over the last three years they have raised over £11,100 which is a massive achievement.

“The Chief Constable, Police and Crime Commissioner and the Chief Officer Team are all exceptionally proud of the cadets and our cadet scheme.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents and carers, the cadet leaders and volunteers. None of this would be possible without their help and support”.

Details of the recipients are as follows:

  • Most Improved Cadet of the Year
