You must be barking mad

Wagging Tails are holding their second charity event 'Take the Plunge 2' September 9.

Before taking to the depths of South Cerney's Outdoor, 31 sponsored volunteers - or 'casualties' - have been raising money for 'Hearing Dogs for Deaf People'.

In 2015 sponsors of the event raised a staggering ?2573 for the charity, and Wagging Tails are thrilled that this year looks to surpass the previous total.

The partnership between Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Swindon's Wagging Tails is of little surprise. As a business Wagging Tails is the kennel-alternative for people's pooches over the holidays, whereby specially selected carers look after your dog in a home environment.

This Saturday sponsors will be diving into South Cerney's lake as 'casualties', which will then put trained Newfoundland dogs of Newfound Friends UK into action to recuse them.

The event is all in aid of raising money to train dogs to be able to assist those who suffer from deafness.

The dogs are trained to alert their owner, or recipient, of sounds they would otherwise not hear, such as the doorbell, telephones, and smoke alarms.

From 10am to 5pm, volunteers and bystanders are all welcome to enjoy the action-packed day out which will also include a raffle, face painting, 'Mutts and the Movie Quiz' (with prizes), and Hearing Dogs merchandise.

Guests will also have the opportunity to listen to a Hearing Dog recipient, who will talk about their experiences with deafness and how their new companion helped change their life.
