Last Monday, the Chief joined Deputy Specials Chief Officer Ben Williamson and Special Constable Francesca Cator on a Chippenham Response shift.

They responded to an area search for a vehicle linked to a suspect that had stolen items from a local supermarket, undertook foot patrols around Malmesbury town centre, engaged with local residents and responded to an allegation of domestic abuse.

Chief Constable Catherine Roper said: “It was a real pleasure and privilege to join our amazing Specials on shift last week and witness firsthand the incredible contribution they make to frontline policing.

“At Wiltshire Police we are very fortunate to be supported by so many amazing people who volunteer their time, experience and skills to help keep the people of Wiltshire safe.

“I would like to thank them all for their continued support, which makes a real difference to the force and the communities we serve.”

The Deputy Chief Constable joined our Specials, including Specials Chief Officer Ben Manning and the Specials Drones unit, in Swindon on Thursday evening, where they supported response officers across a variety of incidents.

These included a report of a horse in the roadway, an RTC involving a vehicle on its roof, a drink driver, multiple concerns for safety incidents, a domestic-related incident and additional ASB-related incidents.

Deputy Chief Constable Mark Cooper said: “Our Specials officers were absolutely brilliant and provided effective support across a broad range of logs, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to frontline policing.

“Thursday’s team effectively amounted to four double-crewed emergency response vehicles, which goes a long way to easing pressure on our regular officers.

“My sincere thanks go to every one of them for consistently going above and beyond to keep Wiltshire safe.”
