Council to resurface four of borough’s busiest roads

Swindon Borough Council will resurface an additional four roads during the summer period as part of work to improve highways in poor condition.

The additional locations, at Bath Road, Croft Road, Draycot Road and The Ridgeway, and Station Road, will receive improvements before the end of September and follow the previously announced work at 18 roads across the borough. 

They have been selected as a priority for work due to their importance to Swindon’s road network, having been identified as high traffic areas in need of repair.

Cllr Nick Gardiner, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “I’m pleased to see further roads added to our current resurfacing programme, with some being a high priority for us to repair for a considerable time.

“This takes the total number of roads receiving improvements this summer to 22 and is an important step to getting on top of our repair backlog despite our limited resources.

“Alongside this proactive work, the team are still undertaking a variety of reactive work including filling potholes and repairing street furniture where necessary.

“I’d like to again extend my gratitude to the teams and our contractors for the hard work, especially during the hot summer weather.” 

Bath Road will be the first location to be resurfaced, with work taking place on Friday 14, Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 August. 

Work at Croft Road will follow, and is scheduled to be completed between Wednesday 19 and Friday 21 August, to avoid clashing with schools returning from summer breaks.

Work at Station Road will also take place between 8pm and 6am to avoid peak road usage.

The programme forms part of the council’s annual roads resurfacing programme, which will see the local authority invest more than £2m into its road network this financial year.

To complete the work as quickly and safely as possible, roads will be closed between 8am and 6pm (with the exception of Station Road) during their scheduled repair periods. 

Access will be maintained for residents and businesses where possible and signed diversions will be in place for other road users.

Residents and businesses affected by the works have been notified by letter.

Each site is expected to be completed within three to five days. Full details, including timings, traffic management arrangements and area of road set to be resurfaced, can be found at one.network along with details of works by other organisations including utility companies.
