The company which runs the flood-damaged Link Centre has announced a partial reopening.
Last month saw the Swindon venue, home to many public sporting facilities and the home rink of the Swindon Wildcats ice hockey team, close following a flash flood.
The waters caused extensive damage, including to the rink and electrical systems.
Link management firm GLL announced: “Following a concerted effort by our staff and contractors over recent days, we will be in a position to partially reopen the gym and fitness studios at The Link Centre from Wednesday 11th October.
“Because there remains no mains power to the building, we will be bringing in 110v battery powered lighting.
“We will be running 26 fitness classes per week and self-powered gym equipment such as exercise bikes, rowing machines skillmill treadmills and ski ergs will be available. We’re asking customers to arrive ‘gym ready’ because the changing rooms and showers won’t yet be operational.
“Whilst this is a modest step towards a full reopening, it demonstrates our commitment to the Link Centre and the hard work our staff have put in, to find the quickest possible interim solution. We hope to have generators on site within a couple of weeks, which will then enable us to operate the full range of gym equipment.
“The temporary opening hours at the Link Centre will be 7am – 8pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 6pm on weekends.
“Members will continue to be able to use other Better operated leisure facilities in Swindon, Oxfordshire, Bath and North East Somerset.”
