Police lift stop and search order imposed after Redhouse stabbing

Swindon Police have announced the lifting of a Section 60 order put in place yesterday - 24 November - in Swindon following a stabbing.

The order, which grants officers temporary additional powers to stop and search individuals, was authorised following a serious stabbing on the footpath between Oakhurst Way and Brook Park in the Redhouse area yesterday afternoon.
A small number of people were stopped overnight but no weapons were found.  
The Section 60 order was kept under constant review overnight and has now been lifted following an assessment of the situation.
Supt Mike Vass, Swindon hub commander, said: “We appreciate the concern that yesterday’s incident and this order have caused in the local community.
“Please be reassured that this is thought to have been a targeted incident, and we are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances.
“The Section 60 order was put in place to temporarily allow officers to search people suspected of involvement in criminality and disorder.
“This power was utilised overnight and has now been lifted. We’d like to thank the local community for their continued support and cooperation, and you will likely continue to see a heightened police presence in the area in the coming days.
“There is no place for this sort of violent crime or disorder in Swindon and creating safer public spaces and tackling violence remain clear priorities for the force.
“We remain keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the disorder yesterday, or has any dash cam or doorbell footage which may have captured the offenders, who were dressed in all black.”
