Swindon Borough Council is asking for public opinion about its gambling premises policy.

The Gambling Act 2005 affects anybody operating premises or organising events that involve commercial gambling. The act requires the council to determine and publish a statement of principles that sets out how it will administer its duties.

The current Statement of Gambling Principles can be found at https://www.swindon.gov.uk/downloads/file/4658/gambling_act_2005_-_statement_of_principles_2015?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=news_events_and_covid_19_updates&utm_term=2022-02-07

Swindon Borough Council say it believes the current principles have worked well for the last three years and that there are no proposals to amend the current policy. However, there is a statutory requirement that the document is reviewed and consulted on in order to give people an opportunity to comment on the policy and propose any changes.

A spokesperson for the council said: "We are keen to consult members of the public, members of the trade, and other organisations, before taking a final decision on implementation."

The results of this exercise will be presented to the Licensing Committee for consideration on 22 March 2022. The online survey can be completed at https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/81NE0L/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=news_events_and_covid_19_updates&utm_term=2022-02-06
