Residents of Wroughton and Wichelstowe are being asked to give their views on the future of the parish by taking part in a major public survey.
The survey by Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council, will help shape the parish’s new 10 year plan for the local area.
The new Neighbourhood Plan 2026-2036 is an important document that will set out the community's vision for the parish and influence future planning decisions, and the survey gives everyone who lives in the parish the opportunity to share their views on how the plan will look.
It covers a wide range of topics including housing, transport, infrastructure, local services, community facilities, the environment and green spaces.
Cllr Holly Woodward, Chair of the parish council’s Planning & Highways Committee, said: “This is a hugely important opportunity for everyone in our community to have a direct say in the future of our parish.
"The decisions we make today will help shape Wroughton and Wichelstowe for years to come.
“Whether you've lived here for decades or have only recently moved to the parish, your views matter.
"We want to hear from as many people as possible so that our Neighbourhood Plan genuinely reflects the needs, aspirations and priorities of the whole community.”
Physical copies of the survey will be put through the letterboxes of all households in the parish. The completed surveys can then be posted into special drop boxes placed at the following locations:
- Ellendune Community Centre, Barrett Way, Wroughton, SN4 9LW
- Waitrose Shopping Centre, Mill Lane, Wichelstowe, SN1 7BX
The parish council has also published an online version of the survey, which can be found at www.surveymonkey.com/r/XMKPTHY
Wroughton and Wichelstowe is the largest parish in Swindon by geographical area, and since its current Neighbourhood Plan was adopted in 2016, the parish has experienced significant change, including new housing developments, population growth and increasing pressure on infrastructure and local services.
Once adopted, the new Neighbourhood Plan will become part of the statutory development process and will be used when deciding planning applications.
Cllr John Hewer, Chair of the parish council, said: “The next ten years will bring both opportunities and challenges for our parish, and this survey is the chance for residents to tell us what matters most to them.
"We don't want to make assumptions about what people think. We want to hear directly from people of every age and every background in order to ensure that our new Neighbourhood Plan reflects the views of the people who know our parish best.
“Every single survey response will contribute to building a clear picture of what matters most to residents in Wroughton and Wichelstowe.”
The deadline to complete the survey is Monday 21 September. The responses will then be analysed by the parish council and the results will be shared with residents.
