Site workers at Barratt and David Wilson Homes in Wiltshire have spilled the tea on the best builder’s brew ahead of National Tea Day (Tuesday 21 April) in an exclusive survey revealing their drinks of choice.
The survey of Barratt and David Wilson Homes builders confirmed that a good brew is still an important part of the day. According to the Tea and Infusions Organisation, a total of 100 million cups of tea are consumed by people in Britain every day.
But going against the grain, coffee has been chosen as the site favourite, with 58% of the construction employees opting for it as their preferred drink of choice compared to just 28% for tea. An impressive 61% also admitted to being sugar-free with their brews in a health-conscious choice for the housebuilder’s site teams.
Emma Hawkins, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “When important decisions need to be made, there’s no better time for a nice, hot cuppa. It’s not a surprise to see coffee named the beverage of choice, alongside top tier dunkers Hobnob and Digestive.

When it comes to making the best brew, 87% of them said adding hot water first is a must when making the perfect cuppa – as opposed to the more controversial option of milk first.
Barratt and David Wilson Homes builders remained loyal to tea and coffee mainly, as just 14% of respondents opted for other drinks such as hot chocolate, fruit or herbal tea as their beverage of choice.
Whilst having important opinions on hot beverages, the construction teams were also asked to name the best biscuits to dunk in their cups.
Chocolate Hobnobs came out on top with 31% of the votes for the best biscuit, narrowly beating Chocolate Digestives (26%). Special shoutouts also went out to shortbread, rich tea and cookies.
The morning remains the favourite time of day to enjoy a brew, scooping 65% of the votes, whilst 27% say that three cups was the perfect amount in an average day, although one in seven commit to five or more cups a day.
