NEW COMMITTEE
The Frreshbrook Village Group Residents Organisation held its 7th Annual General Meeting
in July. A new Executive Committee of interested residents was formed. It has respons
ibility for managing the Community Centre and for taking up issues of concern to all res-
idents of Freshbrook.
You can stay in touch with what is going on locally by attending the monthly General Meet
ings of the Village Group which take place on the first Wednesday of the month in Fresh-
brook Community Centre, (except in November). A speaker is invited to speak on a topic
of interest and there is also a chance for residents to raise matters that the Village
Group should take up on their behalf, e.g. street lights, post-boxes and public telephones
(or the lack of them), etc. Some of the topics for discussion being lined up include:
Why Thamesdown a Nuclear Free Zone, The 'Drug' Problem, Sunday Trading, Education - Have
you any suggestions for a useful and interesting discussion. Watch out for the Focus or
the posters in the community centre windows. Meanwhile come to the meetings advertised
below.

Parents can also learn how to tell their

and answer questions from residents.
SUCCESSES
The Village Group has had some successes in getting other people and organisations to do
things to the benefit of Freshbrook residents. The 'piazza' with its blooming flowers
outside the community centre is one result. Another example is the Doctor who's surgery
is nearing completion at the Village Centre; we met him some years ago and put on pressure
for him to be alloated a council house until a surgery could be built. A recent project
was our collaboration with local councillors in getting a residents petition put forward
calling for a PHARMACY next to the shops. It has planning permission and building work
should start soon. Only with support from residents can the Village Group get results.
Are therethings you want to see done? Come and tell us. Mrs. Pauline Frewin is Chair
of the Village Group and she would be pleased to chat about any community concerns you
may have. Call in at the community centre to make contact.
