Snakes alive! - unusual visitors at Wroughton care home

Residents at a Wroughton care home came face-to-face with some rather unusual visitors when a collection of reptiles arrived for the afternoon.

JJS Reptiles visited The Orchards Residential Home, bringing along a selection of creatures for residents and team members to meet, stroke and, for those feeling particularly brave, hold.
The visit gave residents the opportunity to get up close to animals they might not ordinarily encounter, although it’s some were less enthusiastic than others about holding a snake.
While some residents were happy to get hands-on, others decided they were perfectly content to watch from a safe distance.
Members of the team also got involved, with several taking the opportunity to hold the snakes themselves.
Home Manager Amanda said: “It was certainly a little different from our usual afternoon!
“Some of our residents were incredibly brave and were straight in there wanting to stroke and hold the reptiles. Others took one look and decided they were quite happy just watching – which gave us all a good laugh.
“Our team got involved too and there were definitely a few people overcoming their nerves to hold a snake.
“We love bringing different experiences into the home. It gives residents the opportunity to try something new, have fun and, sometimes, do something they perhaps never imagined they would do.”
The visit from JJS Reptiles formed part of the varied programme of activities and experiences organised for residents at the residential home.
