Rotary bid to bring joy of cycling to people with disabilities

Cyclists across Swindon are being urged to saddle up for an inclusive community Rotary Cyclothon on Sunday 26 July.

It will raise vital funds for Limitless Swindon’s adapted cycling programme at Moredon Sporting Hub.
A Rotary Club of Swindon North & Thamesdown spokesperson said: "Every week more than 200 people of all ages with disabilities experience the freedom, fun and confidence of cycling thanks to the Hub’s fleet of adapted trikes, handcycles, recumbent trikes, wheelchair-carrying cycles and tandems.
"The fleet is also used daily by children with disabilities from local schools on the Hub’s enclosed, traffic-free track.
"However, many of the specialist cycles are nearly 20 years old and urgently need to be replaced.
"With adapted bikes costing between £1,500 and £15,000 each, the Rotary Club of Swindon North and Thamesdown is calling on local riders to help keep inclusive cycling moving."
The free-to-enter Rotary Cyclothon will take place on Moredon Sporting Hub’s dedicated tarmac roadway, with dedicated time slots for disabled riders, families and an open session for everyone. A limited number of bicycles and adapted cycles will be available to borrow.
Participants are asked to collect sponsorship, with every mile ridden helping to add more adapted cycles to the Hub’s stock and open up cycling to even more people in the community.
