The team of the Wyvern Theatre Summer Youth Project are preparing to take audiences Somewhere That’s Green.
Last year,over 150 local youngsters brought a production of much-loved musical classic ‘Annie’ to the stage, but rehearsals are now in full swing for this year’s project, with a cast of almost 200 talented young actors, singers, and dancers from across the county.
These budding homegrown stars will be ready to dazzle audiences with their portrayals of Seymour Krelborn, Audrey, Audrey II and other cult classic characters when The Little Shop of Horrors opens to audiences on Thursday 13 August.
Oli Webb, Creative Learning Manager and Producer for the Summer Youth Project said: "I can't wait to see the incredible energy and creativity that these young talents will bring to the Wyvern stage.
"SYP is a fantastic opportunity for them to shine and for us to support the next generation of creatives".
The creative team will be led by local legend, David Ashley as Director, along with Andrew Collis as Musical Director and Meg McCarthy as Choreographer, with the assistance of Richard Abrams as Assistant Musical Director and Caitlin Nicholls as Assistant Choreographer.
Set in the gritty streets of Skid Row, florist Seymour lives a life of obscurity and despair until he discovers a strange and interesting plant that promises fame, fortune, and a chance at love.
Meanwhile, the plant’s sinister appetite threatens to consume everything in its path…
With its electrifying rock score and razor-sharp book by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, featuring unforgettable songs such as Skid Row (Downtown), Suddenly, Seymour, Dentist!, and Feed Me (Git It!). Little Shop of Horrors is a wildly entertaining musical that will leave audiences screaming with laughter and begging for more.
The aim of Summer Youth Project is to provide up to 200 youngsters aged 9 -21, with the opportunity to work together in a professional theatre.
The two-week project culminates in five performances of a full-scale musical under the supervision of a highly skilled creative team including a professional Director, Choreographer, Musical Director, Musicians, and technical team!
