Wroughton and Wichelstowe’s campaign against dog fouling has gained another valuable teammate as the local cricket club helps to bowl out the problem.

The Wroughton Wranglers have become the latest local group to publicly back the campaign, joining a growing team of community organisations determined to keep the parish free from dog mess.

The Poo Free Parish initiative, launched by Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council earlier this year, aims to encourage residents in the parish to pick up their dog mess.

Last month, local sports team Wroughton and Wichelstowe Football Club and volunteers from Vision 4 Wroughton got together to support the campaign, and now  Wroughton Wranglers have joined the cause to help spread the message.

Cricket club member Martyn Gregory said: “We're delighted to be supporting the Poo Free Parish campaign and doing our bit to help keep Wroughton and Wichelstowe clean and tidy.

“As cricketers, we know how important it is to have clean, safe and enjoyable green spaces for everyone to use.

"Nobody wants to be dodging dog mess when they're out enjoying themselves, whether that's playing sport, walking the dog or spending time with family.

“Picking up after your dog is such a simple thing, but it makes a huge difference to our community. We're proud to be backing the campaign and hope we can encourage a few more people to play their part. Let's bowl dog fouling out of the parish for good.”

The Poo Free Parish campaign aims to raise awareness of dog fouling and encourage responsible dog ownership across the parish.

Cllr Mark Trigg, Vice Chair of the parish council’s Open Spaces committee, said: “It's fantastic to see another local sports club getting behind our Poo Free Parish campaign.

"Our local clubs and community groups are at the heart of parish life, and their support is invaluable in helping us spread the message and encourage responsible dog ownership.

“We know that the vast majority of dog owners do the right thing and pick up after their pets. Unfortunately, it only takes a small minority failing to do so to spoil our lovely parks, footpaths and green spaces for everyone else.

“By working together as a community, we hope to change attitudes and make dog fouling a thing of the past. We're incredibly grateful to the Wranglers and everyone else who has supported the campaign so far.”

Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council is encouraging other local organisations, businesses and community groups to get behind the campaign and help spread the message.
