Wiltshire and Swindon Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Wilkinson is to see his role eliminated along with that of all other PCCs.
Mr Wilkinson is among 37 PCCs across England and Wales, having been elected for a second term in May of last year.
Recent public appearances included the launch of the 2026 Pride of Swindon Awards, at which he joined other local VIPs and rang a ceremonial bell.
The decision to axe the PCC role, which replaced the former system of Police Committees 12 years ago, was announced by the Government earlier today - 13 November.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood described the PCC system as a failed experiment, and the Home Office claims that fewer than 20 percent of people can name their PCC.
