South Swindon Parish Council has introduced two new weekly sessions at Broadgreen Community Centre, providing young people with opportunities to get active, make friends and enjoy activities after school.
Broadgreen Play Sessions and Broadgreen Youth Space take place every Thursday at Broadgreen Community Centre, SN1 2AU. Both sessions are free to attend and aim to provide young people with a welcoming environment to socialise, try new activities and get involved in their local community.
Broadgreen Play Sessions – Thursdays, 4:30pm – 5:30pm
Broadgreen Play Sessions are designed for young people aged 11–16 and offer a range of games, sports and physical activities suitable for all abilities.
Developed by the Parish Council's activity facilitators, the sessions encourage young people to get active, learn new games and develop their confidence through play.
The sessions also make use of Broadgreen Box, a shared community equipment store containing games and sports equipment for local residents to access. The Play Sessions aim to demonstrate how the equipment can be used, encouraging young people to play safely and independently.
All equipment is provided, and no advance booking is required. Participants will need parental consent to sign up and should wear suitable clothing and footwear.
Broadgreen Youth Space – Thursdays, 5:30pm – 7pm
Immediately following the Play Sessions, Broadgreen Youth Space opens its doors to young people aged 11 and over.
The new Youth Space provides somewhere for young people to spend their Thursday evenings, meet others and enjoy activities including arts and crafts, games and socialising.
A key part of the new initiative is giving young people the opportunity to shape the space themselves. The Parish Council's Youth Workers are encouraging attendees to share their ideas about what activities, equipment and opportunities they would like to see, helping to create a Youth Space that reflects their interests and needs.
Both sessions form part of South Swindon Parish Council's ongoing work to provide opportunities for young people, encourage active lifestyles and strengthen local communities.
