Swindon residents are invited to discover the canal on their doorstep at a free open evening hosted by the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust on Monday 12 October.
Taking place from 6pm to 8pm in the college foyer at New College Swindon’s North Star Campus, the evening welcomes anyone curious about the canal’s history, current restoration and future potential. No previous knowledge is needed.
Visitors can explore interactive history displays, find out about today’s new canal construction and restoration work, meet volunteers and ask questions about the canal through Swindon and beyond.
The evening will also explore the benefits of restoration, from opportunities for walking, cycling and boating to wildlife habitats, heritage and places for people to enjoy the outdoors.
For those who have spotted work taking place locally or walked beside the canal and wondered where it leads, this is an opportunity to discover the wider story and meet some of the people helping to bring it back to life.
Residents from Swindon and the surrounding area are welcome, whether they have a longstanding interest in the canal or are learning about it for the first time.
The event takes place on Monday 12 October 2026, 6pm–8pm, at New College Swindon, North Star Campus, North Star Avenue, Swindon, SN2 1DY. Admission is free.
